A Hack for Wet Dishes
If you have recently purchased a new dishwasher and then been very frustrated by how wet your dishes are when it’s finished it’s cycle, you are not alone, AND you’re not crazy either! Your old dishwasher DID do a better job drying your dishes (and cleaning them, for that matter, but that’s a different story!).
Regulations regarding energy consumption were updated to require that dishwashers not vent all the hot air out so that they are more efficient. The downside to this is that, after they have finished washing, all that heat and steam simply condenses right on your dishes as they cool . Plastic dishes are especially prone to this because they cool so much more quickly.
The hack to help with this problem? Simply open your dishwasher as soon as the cycle is complete and let all that hot steam out into your kitchen. We can’t get around the new designs (although you may want to hang onto your very functional but not so pretty older dishwasher) but we can save some time drying dishes with this little snippet of information.
