Cover your food!

Making your refrigerator a safe environment for its internal parts is both important and simple to do. You may not think it's that a big deal to cover the food that you put in your refrigerator, but it not only helps the food stay fresher, it keeps the components of your refrigerator in better shape as well.

The inside of a refrigerator is a natural dehumidifier and it extracts moisture out of the food you placed inside, hence the importance of covering your food to keep it from dehydrating. But the moisture that comes out of the food (especially if it's vegetables and fruit) is acidic which will be absorbed by the fridge’s evaporator coil. Later, when the unit defrosts, it goes down to the drain to the condenser where the seal system evaporates the water. The acid, however, attacks the coils leading to an eventual sealed system leak and an expensive repair.

So, having a variety of storage containers or some plastic wrap to cover your food will save you money on food and expensive repairs.
